I Have Never Been Fond of Falling from Heights
Born in Richmond, VA, to an accountant and an elementary school teacher, Adam did not have the most auspicious start in terms of music. He was surrounded by numbers and books, and quickly learned to read and calculate well beyond his years. However, aside from the Neil Diamond records that his mother loved, music was not a significant part of his family's activities. But then, his grandmother had a brand new upright piano delivered to the house - a present for his mother. Adam, just 4 years old at the time, was instantly drawn in by the instrument, and began carving out his own little tunes. Lessons soon followed, and at just age 12, Adam found himself studying with a concert pianist and playing solo classical recitals. Then, he discovered rock music - and everything changed. To say that Adam is prolific is an understatement. Since composing his first complete song at the age of 11 (a Christmas instrumental), he has written hundreds of songs, transcending a stunning variety of genres. Since 2004, Adam has recorded and released 9 albums (7 EPs, 2 LPs). In the process of producing these records, Adam continued his academic pursuits, completing 2 Masters degrees and a PhD. His songs can only be described as heart-felt, with lyrics that are simultaneously honest, sad and yet hopeful. His melodies are instantly memorable, and you will find yourself humming them the next day, and perhaps for many days to follow. A native of southern Virginia, Adam has lived all over the east coast, from South Carolina to Pennsylvania to Massachusetts. In early 2007, he settled in his current home - New York City, where he performs regularly at respected local venues such as The Living Room, Rockwood Music Hall, and Sidewalk Cafe. Adam has performed in countless venues all over the east coast, ranging from coffee houses and bars, to recital halls and larger college venues. He has performed solo on piano and guitar, as well as with backing musicians. Adam's musical influences are diverse, ranging from Randy Newman and Billy Joel to Counting Crows, Ryan Adams and REM. However, his creativity and desire to transcend genres culminate in a unique sound that is all his own. Adam recently completed a new full-length album, I Have Never Been Fond of Falling From Heights (Swan Dive Into The Atlantic). Written in Ireland, Adam recorded most of the album in his apartment in NYC. The album was mixed at The Buddy Project (Sufjan Stevens, Ari Hest) and mastered by Grammy Award-winning Andreas K. Meyer (Elvis, Patti LaBelle, Yo Yo Ma). Released in May of 2009, this is just one of several projects that Adam has planned for 2009.
