Owls Talk is a superb encounter between young French saxophonist Alexandra Grimal and three venerable jazz masters. The album was recorded in New York in 2009 and originally released in France on the Marge label, but now sees a proper international release from Aparté. Grimal composed or co-composed nine of the album's fifteen tracks. She described the sessions as, "An incredible encounter. A moment suspended in time. A waking dream... or the awakening of a dream?" Lee Konitz, Gary Peacock and the late, great Paul Motian need no introduction, and not surprisingly, their work here is exemplary.
