Cohen's highly anticipated 2008 release builds on her acclaimed 2007 albums NOIR and POETICA capturing the thrilling energy of her live shows and proving her to be an artistically adventurous writer and performer. It finds her helming a quartet of some of the most sought-after, engaging young performers in New York, including pianist Jason Lindner, bassist Omer Avital, and drummer Daniel Freedman, with accompaniment from guitarist Gilad Hekselman on three tracks. NOTES FROM THE VILLAGE features original compositions written by Cohen as well as her interpretations of songs by Fats Waller, John Coltrane, Sam Cook and Ernesto Lecuona.
