While tipping the hat to a wide array of musical styles, atom (bang) explores a new kind of composed, evolved electronica - then redefines and explores new boundaries for the genre. With infectious grooves and epic, haunting melodies, The Big Bang is an aural experience that's dark, thought-provoking, absorbing and catchy. It's an album that's as alien as it is familiar, with unexplored musical terrain that seems like a long-lost friend each time you listen. About atom (bang): atom (bang) is the brainchild of atom(x), an independent composer, producer, performer and audio engineer in Orlando, Florida, USA. He's been making music and manipulating sound for over 15 years. The Big Bang was entirely composed, arranged, produced, mastered, and designed by atom(x), and is being distributed under his self-owned independent label, Sound Emitter. What other bands does atom (bang) sound like? Imagine if Paul Hartnoll of Orbital convinced the members of Skinny Puppy that they weren't really dead. Then, Underworld getting together with Bill Leeb (of Delerium / FLA fame) to write an album about it. Finally, Infected Mushroom and the Kronos Quartet all join in to add the atmospherics. Only, it sounds a little different from that. [review by Orren Merton, author, Logic 7 Power!] Atom Bang: THE BIG BANG So much modern 'electronica' ends up sounding extremely similar: while sometimes interesting, too much ends up sounding like meandering musical fluff. But 'The Big Bang' was clearly created with far more care. For one thing, the songs don't all sound the same; they evolve and grow. The album is not entirely instrumental, and the vocal phrases and singing help to punctuate the record and make it seem more like a journey, while the different electronic lines weave in and out of the various songs. Standout songs in the collection are Running Out of Time, Poseur, Insomnia, Johnsong Intermezzo, Duality, and Drama Trauma. Taken as a whole, this album offers a compelling listening experience from beginning to end.
