Mono Box Set
The release of the Beatles’ album catalog in newly remastered stereo is big news, no doubt—but for a lot of collectors out there, the absolute get-out-of-my-way-gotta-have-it item is this limited-edition mono boxed set, which presents the original mono mixes of their first ten albums (the ones that were mixed for mono), plus a double-CD set of non-LP mono masters. Why is this such a big deal? Well, not only are the mono mixes markedly different from the stereo mixes (and in the case of Sgt. Pepper’s, legendarily so), but the mono mixes are, for the most part, *the way George Martin and the Beatles intended for these albums to be heard* as opposed to the after-the fact stereo mixes! Includes mono versions of Please Please Me, With the Beatles, A Hard Day’s Night, and Beatles for Sale, and, for the first time ever on CD, mono versions of Help! (with the original 1965 stereo mix as a bonus), Rubber Soul (also with a bonus 1965 stereo mix), Revolver, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, Magical Mystery Tour and The Beatles (White Album), all in mini-vinyl editions that re-create the orignal album packaging.. And then there’s the double-CD set of mono singles, EPs and rare tracks, which will make collectors everywhere very happy—its track listing exactly mirrors the stereo Past Masters collection, except it includes Only a Northern Song; All Together Now; Hey Bulldog, and It’s All Too Much and excludes The Ballad of John and Yoko; Old Brown Shoe, and Let It Be. They’re only making a few of these, so you better run! Out September 9.
