Tall Texas Tales
It was 8 days from the first downbeat to the last moment of the final mixes...about 70 hours. We chose 10 out of the 30 songs I'd written since moving to Austin a year and a half before the recording, had two short rehearsals then blazed thru the 10 songs live to tape in the first two sessions. Keyboards, accordion, strings and backup vocals were overdubbed in the next two sessions then we spent 4 days mixing. For me, 8 days from start to finish was a "record". We played like a seasoned band, and the tracks have the magic and power of that live recording. I'm real happy with it. 'When you listen to Bob Cheevers, you'll be hearing a singer/songwriter at top of his game. 'Bob came to Texas, looked around and began to write about the things he saw. His observations about Texas made me wanna go there...and I'm from Texas. Not only is "Tall Texas Tales" a wonderful travelogue of my great state, it is full of songs that could only be written by a man whose life is rich with experience and deep insight. Bob Cheeevers is an American classic...make no mistake about it!' (producer- Stephen Doster)
