Praising the Lord with Brenda
Brenda A. Campbell, vocalist, songwriter and music arranger originally hails from Richmond, Virginia. She is the President and CEO of 'USSMC', a management consulting and information technology firm. She has faithfully served USSMC for eighteen years From her conception, Brenda's parents, the late Earl and the late Georgia Campbell believed that she was destined to sing. Her upcoming release is being dedicated to her mother and father. This new release will embellish the sounds of Brenda's overall talents and gifts of musical arrangements, song writing and skillful delivery of songs through her diverse leads and background vocals. The genre of music will cover old gospel song melodies sang by her parents brought up to date with a flavor of gospel jazz, traditional, and contemporary gospel. Even when you are going through something, just know that no weapon formed against you will prosper. Why, because you are child of the king and have nothing to fear. Thank you for listening and please share your comments and thoughts by sending me an email. I would like to hear from you the listener. May God Bless you. Look out Patti your little sister is going to meet you one day and we can take off our shoes together and run all over the stage and what a time, what a time. In her early years, Brenda participated in elementary, secondary, and high school choirs. During this time, Brenda studied with Ms. Doris Clanton and Mr. Paul A. Gatlin---two of Washington, DC's most renowned conductors. She completed her first recording, 'This Little Light of Mine', as a member of the Sousa Junior High School Choir. While at Spingarn Senior High School, Brenda was voted 'Homecoming Queen' due to a rousing rendition of 'Summertime'. In 1964, Brenda joined the 2nd New St. Paul Gospel Chorus and later became the Musical Director for the Youth Church. She started such groups as the 'Singing Angels' which grew to the 'Second New Saint Paul Children and Youth Choir'. Inspired by her musical leader in the gospel choir, Ms. Lola Wilkins Brown at the time, Brenda was the Youth Choir Director for about twelve years. Like Ms. Brown, young people hold a special place in the heart of Brenda. She often states that all children and young people are hers and they cling to her whenever she comes around. It was during this time that Brenda also began performing with her family's group 'The Gladenneers'. With a mother and father who both had melodious voices, Brenda gives much of this credit to her parents for teaching her at an early age how to sing for the Lord and bring out her God given talents. The family toured the East coast and was often compared to the Staple Singers because of her father's blues guitar playing style and the family's soul-stirring musical presentations. Brenda just had to learn those major and minor chord changes Furthering her academic studies, Brenda attended the Hampton Institute, Bowie State University and finally receiving her Bachelor Degree from University of the District of Columbia with a concentration in Psychology as her major and music as a minor. She finally graduated from Howard University's Graduate School of Social Work, Social Services Management Program. And she also continued to pursue a Graduate degree in Business Administration. During her college years, Brenda was Second Runner-up in the 'Miss UDC Pageant' and First Runner-up in the Miss Black DC Pageant. In both pageants, Brenda's tremendous vocal talent highly contributed to her winning scores. Brenda also taught her daughter to sing at a very early age and now Brenda's daughter Chrystal Serena is also featured on this project. Chrystal like her mother has many talents and gifts. This project is also shared with other talented artists such as Adrian Gause, Tahesha Jones, Alvin Cheaves and Mitchell Scott. Brenda has performed throughout the United States and abroad. Her recording credits include background vocals for I've Got Something to Shout About by Frank Hooker and 'Until the Rapture' by the late Donald Vails of the Salvation Corporation---both nationally released projects. She has also done ensemble work with such great artist as Tramaine Hawkins, Daryl Coley, Darius Brooks, Thomas Whitfield, Rev. Richard 'Mr. Clean' White, Cissy Houston, and Della Reese. Major stage performance to her credit include: 'Light Song I' (October, 1986) and 'Light Song II' (October, 1987), both at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and 'Night of Music', filmed at the Lincoln Memorial and aired in Europe for the American Folk Music Festival. She continues to lend her voice for many occasions. She is also a member of ASCAP. She is currently a member of From the Hearts Church Ministry, under the spiritual guidance of the Episcopal Pastor Dr. John and Dianna Cherry and Pastor John Cherry, II and his lovely wife. Brenda was a member of the Psalmist ministry, and now a member of the Ensemble and Hearts Church Ministry Choir. Her favorite scripture is Isaiah 54:17 'No Weapon'. Brenda has been musically inspired by many artists including: Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Patti Labelle, Whitney Houston, Sarah Vaughn, the late Donnie Hathaway, BeBe and Cee Cee Winans, Tramaine Hawkins, Take6, Nancy Wilson, and the late Minnie Ripperton. Due to the fact that all music belongs to the Lord, when she is not listening to gospel music, Brenda listens to a variety of jazz artists. She uses this inspiration to inspire others through her own unique vocal gift and musical presentation. Brenda is currently the Executive Producer of both this current project and the new project under the auspices of Enhancement Productions and is currently seeking the attention of new management and Record Company Executives to help her to spread the Lord's music ministry throughout the world. Music technology has come a long way, especially with her music producer, senior engineer and musical score arranger. The esteemed Berkeley College of Music Graduate and Music Maestro Vince Evans is behind the depth and beauty of her music, along with other talented musicians and artists. Other artists on this project include: Benjamin Skip Pruitt, Phil French and Phillip Martin, Saxophonists; Wayne Bruce and Stan Cooper, Guitarists; James Brown's former drummer Robert Mousey Thompson, and Cedric Napoleon bassist. These musicians currently have played with such great artist as the Winans, Commission, Marcus Johnson, Yolanda Adams, Joe McIntyre, Brian Cuberson, Patti Austin, Maysa, Pieces of a Dream, and Grover Washington, Vince Evans is awesome and has toured and performed with music's greatest talents such as: Patti Labelle, Maysa, Tanya Blunt, Grover Washington, Jonathan Butler, Lahla Hathaway, the late Isaac Hayes, Pieces of a Dream, Angela Bofield, Al Jarreau, Prince, Rubin Stardard, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Larry Graham, Eddie Murphy, the late Phyllis Hyman, Bill Withers, Freddie Jackson, Johnny Gill, Peabo Bryson, Jean Carn, George Benson, Luther Vandross, Dianne Reeves, Lenny White, and many other great artists to name a few.
