Love for All
'...McNamara channeling the potential of human expression through his horn. And he's got a lot to say. It's a brilliant way to end a very, very solid debut record.' -Mike McKinley, State of Mind Music Magazine '...sounds clean and rewarding...blasts back with great bop-era overtones.' sevendays 'An interesting story unfolds as one listens to this project. It's nice to hear a real band; a band that has played together for what is obviously a long time and has a definite concept. The compositions are excellent as is the performance. One hopes that the story will be continued soon in another installment.' - Sean Smith A Brief Biographical Sketch: Bryan McNamara is a saxophonist, composer, bandleader, educator, and producer. Born in New York City, he grew up in Uniondale, NY and Essex Junction, VT. Having his interest sparked by being exposed to an eclectic variety of musical sounds from childhood and an early start on his main instrument (alto saxophone), it was fairly early in his development when he decided to dedicate himself to pursue his musical passion. The majority of musical growth and development of his individual voice as an improviser occurred in both formal institutional environments and 'on the stand' situations alike. While attending high school in Vermont, McNamara would often make the commute to Burlington where there was quite a healthy jazz/blues scene, especially considering the size of this small lakeside city. During this time he started sitting in with local legends such as James Harvey, Dave Grippo, Gabe Jarrett, and Tammy Fletcher, among others. It was not long after that he started getting the call to play with these seasoned veterans. After high school, McNamara went on to study at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and briefly at CUNY Hunter College, eventually receiving a Bachelor of Music from UMass. He is currently pursuing his Masters in Music at McGill University in Montreal. McNamara has recorded and/or performed as a member of the UMass-Amherst Big Band I, Amherst Jazz Orchestra, Jeff Holmes Big Band, Burlington Discover Jazz Festival Big Band, McGill University Big Band I, Voice (live hip-hop), James Harvey Quartet/Quintet, Garuda, EgoAlien (bass-less trio), Nicholas Cassarino Ensemble, Turkey Bouillon Mafia, and the Anthony Santor Group, among others. He has also has had the opportunity to perform with world renowned musicians such as: fellow saxophonists Joe Lovano, Chris Potter, Dave Liebman('Saxophone Summit' Burlington Discover Jazz Festival, 2005), Peter Erskine, Ralph Bowen, Josh Roseman, Ranee Lee, Pete Robbins, to name a few. As a bandleader, McNamara currently performs and composes for the quartet, 'Souls' Calling' and a 12-piece live hip-pop project, 'Strength In Numbers'. McNamara is also a co-founder and original member of the adventurous Brooklyn-based bass-less trio, EgoAlien, featuring guitar phenom, Nicholas Cassarino, and percussive powerhouse, Conor Elmes. In June 2007, he independently released his first album as a leader with 'Souls' Calling' and the group's debut album, Love For All. As an educator, he has played the role as an affiliate artist and individual instructor at the university level, and has taught privately for over 10 years. He is currently teaching at Johnson State College.
