Beyond the Purple Hills
The Pride of South Austin, Texas has done it again. Beyond the Purple Hills marks the 15th CD from this hard-driving Texas band. Western swing, Texas honky-tonk, roots rock 'n' roll and country-rock styles are explored in this colorful excursion, all held together by a talented collection of seasoned Austin players. Fiddle, steel guitar, piano, sax and guitar solos power a collection of excellent Hurd originals including Come on Home to Houston, I Should Have Married Marie, the Big Lie and Texas Eyes. Covers include obscure gems by American greats like Moon Mullican, the Lovin' Spoonful and Sonny Knight. Cornell Hurd has been making records since the mid-70s, and this CD proves he's not slowing down.
