In the Garden
Crystal Hogan, choral director at Kingsford High School, has produced her second solo compact disk of meditative music designed to provide a restful interlude in the day for listeners. The new disk, entitled "In the Garden," was released on Thursday, October 2nd, and was the result of several years of planning and recording. She provided the guitar, bass, and piano accompaniment while Steven Holmes provided the percussion. Tim Driscoll was the sound engineer. She also composed 5 of the 14 pieces on the disk. Familiar hymns on the recording are "In the Garden", "His Eye is On the Sparrow", and "The Old Rugged Cross". Appropriately named, Mrs. Hogan's crystal clear voice is well known in the community. She has performed in churches, with the Dickinson County Community Chorus, Peninsula Singers, and with the Dickinson County Community Theater. She sings with the praise group at church and is a valued member and frequent soloist with the choir at First United Presbyterian Church and serves as the associate director of the group. Her first recording "Prayer" was recorded ten years ago in loving memory of her mother and sister, Leanne. Fortunately for her fans, she has already started work on her third CD, "Christmas Is...", but doesn't say when it will be finished. Hogan holds a BA degree in music education and an MA degree in education. She is currently in her 30th year as vocal music instructor. She has lived in the Iron Mountain/Kingsford area with her husband Jim for nearly 30 years after growing up at the Wagon Trail Resort in Door County, Wisconsin.
