Welcome to the home of Cytosoul. We are a Seattle based quartet who compose original music, mixing jazz improvization, classical waltzes, boleros, and art-songs. The melodically captivating, lush, dynamic arrangements give the music a certain intimacy that audiences can enjoy at a live performance or on our debut album 'Balance', available now on CD Baby. In the summer of 2006, Birch Pereira and Cynthia Dillard were looking for a creative outlet for the new music they had been writing. This music, though composed in a jazz idiom, was shaped by their varied background in classical, folk and world musics. Assembling this music as an entity they called 'Cytosoul,' they performed around Seattle with other talented musicians until the band eventually became the quartet it is today. After a year of performing around the Northwest, Cytosoul was featured on a Sonarchy radio broadcast (a show which features Northwest, original, innovative music every Saturday night on the popular Seattle Indie station 90.3, KEXP). The four musicians were so intently tuned into each other that night that they gave one of their most expressive performances of their material (and even wrote a new song on the fly). With all but one song taken from this broadcast, the group has put together their first CD, Balance.
