David Boothman -celebrated visionary artist/ musician from Trinidad, has been involved in the arts for the past forty years. Boothman comes from a multi-talented family of artists. His brothers Michael and Roger are also fine artists and musicians. Their internationally renowned uncles, Boscoe and Geoffrey Holder have brought Caribbean art to the world through painting, music and dance since the early1940's. Boothman (the artist) is a graduate of Pratt Institute NY. He has exhibited in the Caribbean, Japan, Europe and the USA. He has been awarded for his multi - media production "Inside of Sound, the Spirit Sings" fusing his art, poetry and music. In Trinidad, he has won numerous awards for music composition and art. He has worked with artists and producers -Alan Douglas, Clarence Avant, Derek Walcott, Andre Tanker, Lord Kitchener, David Rudder and Scofield Pilgrim to name a few. Boothman has composed and produced jingles for Faberge, Cerelac, Malta Carib, Aviance and BWIA, and sound tracks for documentaries. He has toured extensively with his brother, Michael's group 'Kysofusion'. From the pre-Soca era and the emerging Caribbean Jazz in the seventies, Boothman established himself as one of the front-runners. His unique keyboard style earned him the title 'D'Embellisher' as a sought after studio musician. As a composer/ performer, he has stayed with that sweet romantic Caribbean flavor that soothes souls, makes the spirit dance and lingers in sweet memory. His music is transcendental. Boothman now resides in Annapolis Maryland. He is director of Caribbean Arts Central and is currently involved in Caribbean music, arts and entertainment production, consultancy and arts in education programs. As founder and musical director of CAJE: Caribbean Art Jazz Ensemble and Jambulay: Caribbean Burning Jam Dance Band, Boothman maintains his artistic ideals, which have contributed in no small measure to the ensembles' special style. He is dedicated to keeping the music pure magical and joyful. The CD "D'Embellisher's Sweet Lime & Passion" is a wonderful compilation of some of Boothman's compositions dating back to 1970 to 2005. Redone, re-mastered and selected, these works show off the lush colorful tapestry of rhythms and melodies of the Caribbean. This compilation, the first in the Transcendental Caribbean Music series, is a return to the romantic and mystical Caribbean. It is music for your mind, body and spirit.
