Landscape with Figure
Scott Fraser has been composing electro-acoustic music since 1972, working in live performance, dance, film, and radio media. His work, while primarily electronic, has also included works for solo instruments & small chamber ensembles. His pieces often utilize musique concrete techniques combined with acoustic & electric instruments and synthesis, while in recent years he has concentrated almost exclusively on extending the vocabulary of the electric guitar within the format of free improvisation. His recordings have been released on the Fun Music, Artifact, TrancePort, Hypnos, and pfMentum labels. He is also a Grammy-nominated recording engineer and producer, and has toured extensively since the early 1990's as sound designer for the Kronos Quartet. Bruce Friedman is a trumpeter, working in a variety of musical genres. His background includes Free Improvisation, Jazz, Symphonic, Musical Theater, Brass ensembles, Mariachi, and an assortment of Pop Music projects. An earlier Jazz Standards Duo/Trio CD, 'Reflections', is also listed with CDBaby. There are currently two other recordings of his scheduled for completion. "O.P.T.I.O.N.S." uses graphic notation to direct improvised music with an electro-acoustic ensemble. "Tiny Trumpet Tunes for Tiny Tots" is music written for babies and toddlers. It was recently composed for his 6 month old son, using the baby's responses as reference for the musical direction. The solo trumpet music had to appear simple, regardless of whether it was or not. Other recorded projects of his include participation on CDs with Rich West, a Southern California percussionist working in the Free Improv style, and on a recording with John Trubee. Scott and Bruce both reside in the Southern California area. Gigs for the "Landscape With Figure" project have included SoCalSonic (a festival of contemporary music in Long Beach, California), USC, art galleries and coffee houses. Musicians interested in interacting with this project should feel free to contact them via Bruce's website.
