Gene Viale born 1946. Best know as an anointed born again singer of the Gospel. Started singing at the age of five. In the San Francisco Bay area. Attended and sang at his Grandparent\'s Pentecostal Church, in San Francisco\'s Mission district. He is of latin decent ( Puerto Rican-European ) By the age of twelve he organized his first gospel group.He was also singing (as a lead singer)with one of the largest and best know African American Choirs in the San Francisco Bay area,The Voices Of Victory. Gene began to travel around that time, singing the Gospel in small churches in California. He was know from the begining for his smooth soulful/powerful singing style. A style acquired by listening and being ministered to by all the great Gospel singers of the 40\'s through 60\'s on their 78\'s,45\'s and 33 1/3\'s. At the age of 17,while attending a gathering of musicans and singers at a home in Los Angeles.Andre\'and Sandra Crouch (personel friends of his) asked him to sing. Andre\' played the piano. And the rest is history. Gene was asked to be part of the Famous James Cleveland Singers. And with in the week, he,began what was to become an extended tour throughout the U.S.Appearing with all the greats of the day. Mahalia Jackson, Doris Akers, The Famous Caravans, The Gospel Harmonettes, The Staple Singers, The Ward Singers, The Davis Sisters, The Roberta Martin Singers, as well as many of the great choirs. Choirs like The Angelic Choir, The Voices Of Tabernacle and many others.He has appeared both as a Cleveland singer and a solo artist at the world famous Apollo Theater and many of the other prestigious venus across this country. Gene received both Minister and Evangelistic licensing from the international Churches Of God In Christ in the year 1967. In the year of 1975 He was priviliged to appear in a one time tour of five countries in Europe.Gene has recieved awards from both the Urban League and The NAACP.2005 brought him a Gospel Pioneer Award..given by the world famous Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir and recogniction by The Gospel Music Workshop Of America..Founded by the late Rev. James Cleveland,at their Milwaukee Workshop.April 29th 2006 brought Gene another honor, that of the Gospel Academy Award, Congressional Certificates of Recognition from the US Congress,the City of San Francisco and Richmond Ca.. All for over forty years of ministry with in Gospel music.Presented by Bro. Richard Herron of and for The Justin S. Cummin Choral Inc.at their 35th Gospel award White Tie Gala at the Palace Hotel, in San Francisco.His long time friend,The world famous Miss Inez Andrews (writer of the song Mary Don\'t You Weep)and one of the famous Caravans, flew in as a surprised guest to bestow the awards on Gene. Gene has been one of the featured artists for two years 2005 at the War Memorial Auditorium /2006 at the Yerba Buena Center for The Arts.As part of San Francisco\'s largest Gospel Concerts \'One Voice\' together with Bishop Yvette Flunder, Shirley Miller, Donald Lawrence, Martha Wash, Daryl Coley, Charlene Moore and Jennifer Holiday.To raise money for the Yvette Flunder Foundation Inc.- which provides multiple humanitarian services for people living with AIDS-here in the USA,Zimbabwe and South Africa. It also provides many other services with in the inner city of San Francisco. For the poor, for those suffering with drug abuse,and for the elderly and homeless.2007 brought Gene appearances in both the country of Zimbabwe and South Africa, under the leadership and direction of Bishop Yvette Flunder. He now as part of his ministry is envolved in acquiring sponsors and help for the children of the \'Mother Of Peace\' Orphanage..children orphaned because of HIV/AIDS in Zimbabwe Africa.For more info about Mother Of Peace contact The Refuge Ministries of San Francisco, California.The Gospel Music Workshop Of America\'s (2007)40th year anniversary (at the world famous Disney World Orlando Florida) was high lighted with a reunion appearance of the James Cleveland Singers, Gene was proud to be a part of that appearance, together with singers representing various years of Rev.Cleveland\'s ministry.2008 has brought Gene another ministry award and congressional certificate of recognition from the U.S. Congress. Forty years have passed, since his first recording experience. Gene,has been featured over the years, on eight albums. The first two,as a Cleveland Singer \'Heaven That Will Be Good Enough For Me\' on the Savoy Label (the second album on the Savoy Label, as a Cleveland Singer was never released) it contained as part of it\'s song list..a duet with Rev. Cleveland and Gene singing \'We Shall Overcome\' backed by the Cleveland Singers.\'What Color Is God\' Checker Records, \'As Unto The Lord\' and \'If You Trust In The Lord\'Camella Records.Previous to this new project,a Live CD with Miss Cassietta George/duet \'He ain't Heavy He\'s My Brother\' and then \'The Only Hope We Have\' with the late Miss Cassietta George of the Legendary Caravans on the Light Label.Gene is featured on \'Gene Viale The Early Years\' which is also available on this cdbaby site.At cdbaby.com/geneviale2, Gene can be viewed as a young man as a part of the Harold Washington video archives. Coffee, D.D..He is also a member of the Sacramento chapter of the GMWA under the leadership of Sister Dorothy Love Thornton.
