Dust of the American Pixel
George Zhen has created a conceptual piece that dares the listener to explore a myriad of sonic complexities. A hybrid sound that marries electronic and organic elements, 'Dust..' explores the broad and often troubling relationship mankind has with technology, magnified through the lens of the American century. Sonicly lush, rivited by pianos, synth layers, experimental percussion and blankets of field recordings, Zhen has produced a sound reminiscent of artists like Pink Floyd, The The and the darker side of The Beatles. Break out the headphones, kill the lights and get ready to immerse yourself in the deep end. George Zhen is a multi-instrumentalist and producer from South Florida. He plays about everything, but really would like to find time to learn the violin or sax. His previous musical endeavors include stints in many successful area original bands, but nothing you'd know of. Lately, he has found a niche as a record producer, working with artists like Shawn Snyder, imadethismistake and Chorderoy, which has been very satisfying artistically to him. He lives with his very patient wife and has two wonderful boys who have learned that staying in school is a much better idea than chasing crazy rock star dreams. George Zhen plays: Piano, Organ, Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar, Bass, Drums, Synthesizers, Samplers, Percussion, Harmonica, Dulcimer, Melodica, programs Drum Machines and handles Drum Loops, orchestrates String arrangements, Sings, Screams, Harmonizes and drinks real snooty beer. He is also a ProTools jockey, recording and engineering music from his little studio in Ft. Lauderdale called The Wild Iris. And although he is visually impaired and legally blind, he continues to produce visual art including graphic designs and videos.
