Great Labels of Doo Wop: Atlas / Various
The history of doo wop record labels is filled with smaller companies that might not have achieved national notoriety, but did meet with their share of respectable regional success. The Harlem-based Atlas Records turned out a number of great sides during its seven-year existence, in addition to being an integral part of the community and serving as a model for other black-owned labels like Motown. This set collects 10 Atlas favorites, including Foolish Dreams; It Wasn’t A Lie; I Call To You Fitones; In My Lonely Room; Way To Go On Pretending Four Haven Knights; My Heart Tells Me; Yvonne Parakeets; Lenora Travelers; Love My Baby Revells Quartet, and Why Gypsies.
