Photographer: Stephen Taylor Hodges. If you ever wanted to know where the spirit of the late Earl Hooker went, it's in the capable hands of young Rick Holmstrom. All instrumental albums are a rarity in blues, but Holmstrom's inventive ideas are top-notch, making each track stand mightily on its own. Perhaps better known for his excellent backing work behind harmonica ace Johnny Dyer (six of the tracks here are culled from Dyer's two Black Top releases), Rick steps to the plate on the debut release and connects with a home run. A real treat is "Rub It," a stripped down barn burner with just drums and rub board in support of Holmstrom's blazing guitar work. ~ Cub Koda
