This is CD #5 and counting for Jd 2. This CD deals with getting away from a number of things. Problems of the world, and heartaches to mention two. I had the chance to catch up with Jd2 on one of his highway road tours, so I sat down with him at the side of the road to discuss this new album. EL: Okay! First of all with these cars passing by and people waving I'm not sure if I can get this interview in or not, but I'll start by asking you how this concept came about? Jd2: Ah, by concept do you mean the CD or my highway tours? EL: Well, why don't you tell me about both? Jd2: Okay, the highway tours started a few years back when I couldn't get any work and I needed to practice and keep up with my songs. I was amazed when I first went out on the roadways and just started playing for passing cars. People were very supportive and so I decided to keep it up. As for the new CD I think most of these songs deal with losing relationships and deciding to go find a place to think. I've been in those situations a few times in my life so it was not unfamiliar territory for me. EL: Your first 4 Cds were: I've Got A Long, Long, List, Everybody's Gunnin' 4 Me, Can't Make A Dime (On A Broken Heart), and It's Such A Short Time. How does this new album fit in? Jd2: Well, it fits in fine because it was next in line and I had these songs set into a subject grouping so I could make a theme concept just like my other albums. It's not a major birth thing. I put these songs together because I thought they fit and had a common purpose. EL: I can't believe all these people that are driving by and how I'm getting caught up in this like I've been here before. I'm waving to these people and they're waving to me like we're long lost friends but I've never seen them before in my life! Jd2: Yeah, it's fun, when the weather's nice. But it can get nasty when it's rainy and cold. It's not a lot of fun to stand on the road in those conditions but the people are still nice and surprised to see someone out here in such an unusual place playing a guitar and singing songs. I think they appreciate the change of pace during their drive. So they wave or blow their horns and go on about their daily life just like I do. EL: Well these folks are having fun as they pass by that's for sure. Tell me about (I'm waving to someone here HI! - this is surreal) the songs on this album. Are they new, old, borrowed, blue? Jd2: Well, they're a mixed bag, like a lot of my stuff. Some are new, others I've had for a while, but I don't think age has anything to do with it. Just like in life. If the song's meaningful and someone relates to it, then it's a good song. Being new or old doesn't matter. Some of the greatest songs ever written were done 70+ years ago and they still work today while some of the worst songs ever written were done last week. Maybe even some of mine! EL: What's next after this? Jd2: Well for me I'm stopping at a coffee shop before I head back to do some work on a few songs for my next album. EL: How much is left to do on that? Jd2: I've got a few things to clean up on it. It's called 'Leftover Bits/Eat A Muffin Take A Sip (drip, drip)' I'll explain the title the next time around. I've got to get back up here and do another 30 minute set so I can call it a day on the highway and get some coffee. Thanks for reading and listening everyone, C U on the highway of life. Beep! Beep!
