If Jimmy Smith pioneered the modern jazz organ, it was Jimmy McGriff who moved it out of the blues arena and into R&B with a string of successful albums throughout the '60s on Sue, Solid State and finally Blue Note. Electric Funk (with its strong guitar and bass grooves over which McGriff cooks effortlessly) has become a favorite in the jazz/hip hop community. Highlights include "Back on the Track" and "The Bird Wave." This groove classic is reissued for the first time.
