Josh O'Connor is an artist whose vocal talent and songwriting skills combine the fantasy of Roxy Music with the soul of Simply Red and the drive of Smashing Pumpkins. Josh is backed by a revolving group of music vets who are no strangers to big stages and success. Anthony Parrulli (Drums) performs as a Blueman in the Blueman Group, Charles Henry (Lead Guitar) performs in the Blueman Group band, Graham McLachlan (Bass) performs in the Blueman Group band, and Magnus (Bass) has graced the airwaves at the top of the charts. In the studio, Josh has teamed up with incredibly talented producers and engineers to dial in his sound including Jason Cupp (Evanescence, Avril Lavigne, Finch), Eddie Kramer (Jimi Hendrix, Led Zepplin, Kiss, The Beatles), Matty Green (Fall Out Boy, Gym Class Heros) and Scott Mullane (Blueman Group, Credence Clearwater Revisited). Josh O'Connor was born on a U.S. Military base in Berlin, Germany. After a year, Josh's family returned to their hometown town of Chicago, Illinois. Growing up in a musical household, Josh took up his first instrument, a rented saxophone, in the 6th grade. Soon afterward, Josh taught himself guitar, piano, drums and bass. A love for the Chicago indie rock sound developed where local bands like Menthol, Triple Fast Action, and Smashing Pumpkins were making their names. While attending the University of Illinois pursuing a major in Aeronautical Engineering, Josh wrote songs and played rhythm guitar for his college band 'Current Resident'. A brief stint at Columbia College followed but Josh decided to head West to see what the 'real' world was like. Josh stopped in Las Vegas where he began playing out as a solo act. Over the next couple of years Josh played the Las Vegas and Southern California scene and started stockpiling songs for his first release. In 2004, Josh wound up in Hollywood where he met Stacey Dodds of Chalice Recording Studios. Stacey offered to help Josh record some demos and brought in his friend Jason Cupp (Evanescence, Finch) to assist with the production. Two songs from this session would make the 'Victorian' EP (along with two previously recorded songs engineered by Bret Hansen of Audio Arts in Las Vegas) which was self-released in 2005. A move back to Las Vegas found Josh in need of a band. Josh met drummer and Blue Man Group performer Anthony Parrulli and Anthony introduced Josh to another Blue Man Group musician; Charles Henry (Lead Guitar). Josh's long time friend Magnus completed the band on bass guitar. These four entered Bernie Becker studios with Jason Cupp to track two new songs. A chance connection on the internet put Josh in touch with the legendary Eddie Kramer (Jimi Hendrix, Peter Frampton, Led Zepplin). Eddie agreed to mix the two songs at The Mix Room in December 2005. Josh and Eddie became friends and talked about Eddie doing the first album. But lack of budget got in the way. Drawing on that experience, Josh invested the money he had into a home studio and dove headfirst into learning the equipment. A bass player change was also on the horizon with another Blue Man Group musician Graham Maclachlan taking over the bass duties. Josh now had all the tools he needed to start the production of 'Shadow'. Production of the LP began in early 2006 when Josh and his band set up a recording studio in a close friend's Las Vegas mansion and brought in Scott Mullane (Blueman Group, Credence Clearwater Revisited) to help engineer the sessions. The recording was completed in late 2006 and in January 2007 Josh went back to Los Angeles to mix the album at Chalice Recording with Matty Green (Fall Out Boy, Gym Class Heroes). Additional mixing was done at Another Breed recording in Woodland Hills with Scott Mullane. Grammy winner Stephen Marsh mastered the album and 'Shadow' was released July 31st 2007 on Race Day Records.
