Julius Hemphill was a jazz composer and saxophone player best known as founder of the World Saxophone Quartet. This collection from Black Saint/Soul Note is a fitting tribute that includes five of his classic albums: Raw Materials and Residuals (1977), Flat-Out Jump Suite (1980), Fat Man and the Hard Blues (1991), Five Chord Stud (1993) and Chile New York (1998). Featured artists include Abdul Wadud, Warren Smith, Tim Berne and Marty Ehrlich.
