Born in Sandy, Utah, Katie has always loved music and studied piano, voice, guitar, and composition at an early age. Her singing voice is clear and compelling, and she is exceptionally talented at conveying emotion in lyrics and melody. Oxygen-deprived at birth, Katie had to overcome serious obstacles to achieve her dreams in music and education, and to become the self-confident, creative young woman she is today. 'Ever since I was little I made up my own songs,' she remembers. 'I never thought of writing them down until I met vocal coach, Dan Whitley, the founder of the Notable Youth Foundation. Dan showed me how all my thoughts and feelings could become songs.' 'I spend much of my time watching people and listening to their stories. This gives me a unique perspective and enables me to discover and feel the world around me,' says Katie. 'Although I hadn't yet had the experience of falling in love, I could imagine how this would feel, and the nine songs in this songbook capture me at a time when love was a beautiful new experience that everyone yearns for and I wanted for my own.' 'I have always been inspired by movies, books, other artist and my friends and family. I found that my first album was written at a time when I had never experienced anything surrounding falling in love. So most of my songs are circled around what I thought falling in love would be like. I enjoy that first album a lot. It helped me to learn, grow, and understand the world around me. Now that I'm getting started on a new album I have found that I have changed much from my days of dreaming of falling in love. I hope that through the next few years I can, through song, express who I have become and use my music to connect with others and give insight to the way I and others view the world around them. This has been a time of growing and gaining knowledge. I've learned lessons both good and bad and I hope I can share those experiences with others to help them likewise learn and grow.'
