Love Life & Relationships
Keith Robertson, an experienced and award-winning music industry veteran with several successful production and writing credits under his belt, has forayed onto the gospel music scene with the release of his debut CD "Love, Life & Relationships". Keith's first solo effort is a 12 track homage to authentic spirit-filled love, and showcases his expertise at writing songs that simultaneously reflect real life and inspire hope. Stylistically, the disc leans more towards Adult Contemporary and R&B than traditional gospel. Merging his faith with a more modern sound is no surprise when you consider that Keith hails from a family of successful international recording artists that had their hand in both gospel music and R&B. While Keith credits his grandmother Mazel Robertson, background singer for gospel great James Cleveland, for arousing his interest in music, it was uncles Chris Jasper and Rudolph Isley of the Isley Brothers that gave him an early understanding of the music business. "It was really a great experience. From a very young age we would see them every summer," reflects Keith. "We would go to their concerts and just be a part of their lives. Being around them helped to shape me as an artist." And it's more than just famous uncles that have helped Keith to hone his skills and prepare him for solo artistry. A professionally trained percussionist, songwriter, and producer, the industry first took note when in 1988 he received percussion and drum programming credits for Teddy Pendergrass' Gold Plaque award winning LP "Joy". A decade later, Keith had more success with Teddy Pendergrass as the co-writer and co-producer of the 1998 top 20 song "Believe in Love". In between those two achievements Keith polished his skills with some of R&B's best - from touring with the beloved group the Dazz Band to being mentored in production and songwriting by hit maker Reggie Calloway of Midnight Star. More recently, Keith won a multi-platinum award for his songwriting collaborations on N-Sync's 11 million+ bestselling CD "No Strings Attached" in 2001. As evidence of the respect that Keith has garnered as a masterful songwriter and producer, he has also been called in to write and produce tracks for some of the most popular network and cable TV shows such as the CW's America's Next Top Model, MTV's Punk'd, and MTV's Making the Band 3 with Sean "Diddy" Combs. "Working in mainstream music for so many years taught me a lot about how the real music business operates, and how hard you have to work as an artist," comments Keith. "It prepared me for understanding that if this is something that I really wanted, I would have to be serious and strive to reach a level of excellence in order to have any success." Keith's accumulated music business acumen and talent resulted in the release of solo project "Love, Life & Relationships", which has been coined as a blueprint for relationships. With smooth yet passionate vocals and top-notch production, Keith shares his faith on subject matter dealing with marriage, divorce, homelessness, singleness, courtship and conviction. Keith created the concept for "Love, Life, & Relationships" after noticing a void in the amount of music that truly ministered to people in those areas. The fast-paced opening track, "Love You Like Crazy", sets the tone for the entire album. The lyrics perfectly illustrate what it's like to be devoted to your spouse despite disparities, and let's listeners know right away that this project takes truth to an entirely different level. Another stand-out track is "My Baby", a soul-stirring and gentle wedding anthem that is sure to be a favorite of engaged and long-time married couples alike. And Keith's heart for ministry is profoundly evident on "Don't Nobody Wanna Be Here", a socially conscious and intensely purposeful track discussing homelessness and domestic abuse. Rhythmically picking up the pace a bit from the previous few ballads, it is a convicting reminder of how often we judge those who are less fortunate. Keith then gives listeners a rest break with the mostly instrumental track "Fiesta". A perfect ride along song, "Fiesta" creates a relaxing smooth jazz vibe with Latin inspired beats and melodies. Every great love song album has at least one heart break song, and "Love, Life & Relationships" is no exception. "Mi Corazon (My Heart)" details the heartache a person feels when their spouse doesn't believe the depth of their love. The first single released from the album, "Mi Corazon (My Heart)" has already received top 10 honors in the United Kingdom. Overall, "Love, Life & Relationships" is a passionate and pleasing voyage through all aspects of Godly love - and can perhaps best be summed up in the emotional spiritual ballad "Teach Me How to Love". Acknowledging mankind's need to get their cue from God on how to love others, Keith pens "Teach Me How To Love / Teach me how to go beyond me feelings / And love like you do Teach Me How To Love / Teach me how to go beyond my feelings / And love in spirit and truth" When asked what he wants people to gain most from this project, his answer is surprisingly simple considering the intricate aspects of love uncovered on the album. "I just want people to know that God is real - and that he is concerned about how we do love, how we do life, and how we do relationships," shares Keith.
