Softer Side of Swing
Kelli became an International Recording Artist when Warner Bros. German affiliate, Eagle Records released a self-titled double CD which topped Euorpean charts at #4 in Belgium and #7 in Holland. The 20 cut CD was half classic pop 'jazz' standards and country originals. The pop half of the Warner Bros. CD was re-released with a few new tunes added as: 'Softer Side of Swing' Mickey Moody, formerly of ABC-DOT records engineers a magnificent album of pop, "swing" standards that Kelli's low, sultry voice can literally wrap around each and every note. "An enjoyable product to be apart of as well as listen to," states this award winning producer. Mickey has worked on projects with B.J. Thomas, Johnny Winter as well as 17 albums for Freddy Fender. Just to name a few. His work has received numerous awards and recognitions from the Academy of Country Music to the National Academy of the Recording Arts & Sciences. The lead singles or push songs from the CD are; "PRETEND" and "IF YOU WERE THE ONE." Kelli has been recognized more than once for her songwriting talents and "If You Were the One," a riveting and passionate original that will arouse the deepest emotions of ones heart and soul about the one true love everyone dreams about til the morning sun blocks out the night. A torch ballad that should capture the industries attention once again. There are 14 wonderful romantic love songs commonly associated with the big band movement which Miss Grant logically refers to as "soft swing." Well, what else would you expect from, "the Queen of Swing®?" The CD starts with a Nat King Cole's classic, "Pretend" which is one of the best renditions I've heard. Then "the Queen" swings thru "You're Nobody til Somebody Loves You" which too is very very good cover. Then Kelli's own, "If You Were the One" a very exciting performance full of raw emotion. Other memorable cuts included: "Stormy Weather", Lady Is a Tramp", "Unforgettable", "Georgia On My Mind", "You Made Me Love You", "Don't Get Around Much Anymore", "It Had to be You", "Birth of the Blues", "As Time Goes By", & "There'll Be Some Changes Made" with Kelli writing the second verse. Also, a great cut of the old swing standard, "Jersey Bounce". When Mickey presented the song title to Kelli, "she immediately said she didn't want to do a song about a COW!" She's from Texas friends and neighbors. ;o) All with marvelous arrangements designed to showcase Kelli's delightful vocals. Kelli not only sings but arranges and plays: piano, electric piano, organ and bass on several of the cuts. If it "swings" with a pulse driving rhythm and lead, it's Kelli ... MUSICIANS: Kelli Grant - Piano, Electric Piano, Organ and Bass / Basic arrangements, Curly Lewis - Violin, Bob White - Steel Guitar and Dubro, J.B. Van - Steel Guitar, Bill Ham - Lead Guitar, Johnny Patterson - Lead Guitar, Bill Cobb - Keyboards, Billy English - percussion, Jeff Ebner - drums/percussion Kelli Grant's list of accomplishments are long but well documented. Kelli received an "Honorable Mention" from Billboard for her R&B original, "The Way Love Use to Be" from her "Honky Tonk Rock" CD. Working off her title and her blues credentials, Kelli did extensive research writing an original musical revue, "The History of Swing & Blues," modifying the title to, "Swingin' the Blues" which is listed in the Isle of Capri Casino's BLUE BOOK as one of their BEST SHOWS. Kelli is on the Mid-America Arts Alliance touring roster, which covers 7 states. Non-profit venues receive co-funding from the National Endowment for the Arts. Thank you for buying this CD ... and by the way. Why don't you prop your feet up and relax for just a few minutes as you listen to the "Softer Side of Swing" by "the Queen of Swing®" Miss Kelli Grant and have a nice day.
