In the three years since their inception, the guitar/rhythm trio Les Cox (Sportifs) have made a point of doing things differently. Drummer Christo Wallers learned to play drums while playing live, and by the third gig at medieval poetry venue Morden Tower, it was certain that there had arrived a new creed on the scene. 'Harking back to a time when 'indie' was not a major subsidy, Steven Pastel reigned C86 supreme and zines were Xeroxed rather than emailed, Les Cox (sportifs) are an unpolished, artless, ramshackle, naive and utterly charming insight to all that was great with the indie scene 20 years ago. They tell stories of love, sex, death, politics and compulsion; although this is not tongue in cheek pop, nor it is neo-regionalism.
