Lovey's Original Trinidad String Band
While researching Caribbean history, American ethnologist Dick Spottswood found treasure in some library cardboard boxes: the very first recordings of calypso music. Recorded in NYC while this 12-piece Trinidad orchestra were touring the U.S., these amazing discoveries from 1912 have been fully restored (they could pass for recordings from the ’40s or ’50s): Mango Vert; Manuelita; Tobo Justina; La Liebre; Siempre Alegre; Alexandrina, and more!
