Luigi Gagliardi, Italian jazz singer, composer, arranger and guitarist, has forged his innovative jazz sound through the mastery of genres as diverse as Latino and classical, Indian and Rock, Celtic and Spiritual. Luigi has released or participated in 9 albums, including the recently released Changing Colors with Suryananda Quartet, Flamingo Road with Gianni Zei, and his own Cosmic Feeling.. With an incalculable respect for all genres, Luigi thoroughly succeeds in avoiding formulas. The songs he composes, and/or arranges all ring true, and his audiences feel that. His joyful exuberance creates an instant rapport with his audience. Born and raised in the artistically iconic city of Florence, Italy, Luigi is enthusiastically praised for his style and ability because he effortlessly interprets and reinterprets all elements of jazz in his rejuvenative sound. Flavio Cucchi, internationally renowned classical guitarist, in commenting on the Flamingo Road duet album, said: "The expert use of different styles (flamenco, jazz, latino) on classical guitar created a sense of emotional completeness. Fantasy, virtuosity and musical knowledge are all fused in a passionate album." Prestigious JazzItalia.net similarly reviewed: "Simultaneously inspires feelings of abandonment and reassuring intimate melancholy. Luigi has played with several groups including the guitar quartet Guitar Consort, the ethno-Celtic music group De Pookan, the Flamenco group El Tablao and the guitar orchestra Guitar Symphonietta, directed by Afro-Cuban composer, classical guitarist and conductor Leo Brouwer, with whom he played on RAI television. Brouwer has been involved in more than 100 recordings. His compositions reflect classical, Afro-Cuban, jazz and avant-garde influences. Gagliardi's partner on Flamingo Road is the incredibly talented Gianni Zei. In 1996 Zei won the Summertime in Jazz festival held in Prato, a competition for new talent. Zei has played with artists such as Massimo Urbani, Luca Flores, Ares Tavolazzi, Stefano Bollani, Alessandro Di Puccio in Italy and abroad. Gagliardi's latest group is the Suryananda Quartet, where he is joined by fellow Italians, bassist Francesca Taranto, drummer Michaele Zappatini, keyboardist Simone Zappatin, and by American keyboardist David Joyce. Joyce is the keyboardist for Burt Bacharach and has toured with such legendary performers as Natalie Cole, Neil Young, Elvis Costello, Frank Sinatra, Joe Cocker, U2, and Ray Charles. The eclectic Gagliardi is a seminar leader, teacher, and yoga instructor, who has taught acoustic, classical and electric guitar, electric bass, ensemble music, musical theory and arranging in the famous "Lizard School" of Fiesole (Florence) and in the music school in Sesto Fiorentino. Luigi is also a published author: The Rhythm Guitar (Jazz, Rock, Blues)" with Paolo Amulfi, Berben Publishing. Despite his literary credits though, his first love is music. Luigi has specialized in music composition courses offered by Leo Brouwer and won a scholarship subsidized by CEE and the Umbria Region of Italy to participate in the prestigious Course for Arrangers organized by CET (Centro Europeo di Toscolano). He has been interested in Yoga for 20 years, and was certified to teach Hatha yoga at the Yoga Institute of Carlo Patrian in Milan. He has since specialized in the Duchenne Institute in Florence with several other teachers in the Indian tradition.
