My Canadian - Portuguese heritage has offered me the unique opportunity to integrate languages (English, Portuguese, & Spanish), and the different musical/cultural traditions; which I have been trained-in to bring an array of musical styles together to create something new and exciting. This production is to create a fresh sound by amalgamating Afro-Brazilian rhythms, North American & Latin American influences. The Brazilian rhythms, that I have chosen to fuse is Olodum. Olodum - Is a popular rhythm in Salvador Bahia-Brazil where Olodum is being played. It's diverse rhythm and sound, has gained popularity around South America and other parts of the world. There are three different types of Olodum they are: Samba Olodum, Reggae Olodum and Axe. The two Olodum rhythms that I have chosen to record on this production entitled 'Deep ' are: Samba Olodum, and Reggae Olodum. Using these rhythms has allowed me to amalgamate with other styles of music, such as Funk, Hip Hop, Urban, Latin Rock, and Reggae. Olodum is a very passionate and rich rhythm. As soon as you hear the drums beating you have to get up and dance. The Olodum is played with numerous Percussionists at the same time. As a Musician, I am excited to offer this production to the world to enjoy. Mario Melo HAD BEEN PLACED ON THE OFFICIAL BALLOT FOR 2009 GRAMMY AWARDS BY THE NATIONAL ACADEMY OF RECORDING ARTS AND SCIENCES IN FOLLOWING CATEGORIES: RECORD OF THE YEAR - OLODUM; ALBUM OF THE YEAR - DEEP; SONG OF THE YEAR - OLODUM; BEST NEW ARTIST; BEST MALE POP VOCAL PERFORMANCE; BEST POP VOCAL ALBUM - DEEP.
