Live Out Loud
'Seldom Have I heard a CD with so many fine songs, even less seldom so many fine songs written by one artist. You can't help but be moved by Mike Hughes' Herb Gart: publisher of Don McLean's AMERICAN PIE, Even though Michael Francis Hughes has been writing songs and making music for a long time, LIVE OUT LOUD is his first CD. Early reviews indicate it was worth the wait. The love of music started with the great songs, from the Gay 90's to Tin Pan Alley, the Brill Building to Liverpool, the British invasion to the Laurel Canyon and most recently Nashville. Michael is a McCartney trained melody guy. The songs have hooks that catch on quickly and have intelligent lyrics that say something and stay on point. The award winning writer he has had several songs cut by other artists. His vocal session work can be heard on April Wine, The Nighthawks and the new Soraia record. He's been seen over the years in the Mid Atlantic from the Chesapeake Bay to his roots in Levittown and Bristol as well as Philadelphia and the New Jersey shore. A BMI writer and longtime NSAI member, Michael makes frequent trips to Nashville pitching, performing and appearing at the Sunday Writer Night show at the famous Bluebird Café. He was a finalist in the first Philly Rising Series at the World Café Live. Expect to hear him soon on WXPN via Helen Leight's Philly Local show and perhaps next on NPR's World Café with David Dye.
