Mike Van Russell has been involved with creating music nearly all of his life. At the age of 13 he got his first guitar. Soon after that he started using his father's stereo reel-to-reel tape recorder to create original 3 track instrumental guitar arrangements. Thus began Mike's fascination with multi-track recording. Typical of his recording projects, for his new CD, "Love Is", Mike served as producer, he composed all of the songs, and he arranged and performed all of the vocals and music in his home project studio. As the title implies, most of the songs on Mike's new CD deal with love in some manner or other. He draws upon typical life experiences as he touches upon such things as missing someone you are far from, letting someone know how you feel about them, having someone get to know the real you, and taking a second chance on love. Mike also draws upon other experiences for his inspiration. For one thing, his outlook on life has been deeply affected by living in two other countries, Guyana, South America, and Dominica in the Caribbean. Mike has also been deeply affected by the Sacred Writings of the Baha'i Faith along with those of the world's other major religions. The first song on the new CD is inspired by certain Writings found in the Baha'i Faith. Of all the songs, this song looks at love in the broadest, deepest, and most spiritual sense.
