'Mission Street Project' Debut release: 'Liberty Tree' Erik Balkey w/ Laurie MacAllister + Duke Levine 'Mission Street Project' is a musical side project of songwriter Erik Balkey with the intention to preserve and further the tradition of songs that are written on topics of social relevance. In 2005, Balkey made it his mission to collaborate and collect songs and stories for this project with the help of American touring songwriters. The results of his efforts are recorded on "Liberty Tree," the 18-song debut album of the Project. "Liberty Tree" is the Volume 1 in a new series called "Songs From The American Kitchen Table" and covers topics including the war, immigrant workers, the death penalty, homelessness, family farms and boom towns as well as family, American hospitality and kindness. Co-writers on this first effort include Jonathan Byrd (NC), Ryder Daniels (NH), Freebo (CA), David Holtzclaw (NC), Johnsmith (WI), Laurie MacAllister (NJ), Bonnie Lee Panda (CT) and Pat Wictor (NY). Also featured are songs by Dave Carter, Johnny Cash and John Fogerty.
