Glad to Meet You
Formed in Portland, Oregon in late 2007 by songwriter/singer/guitarist Pete Vercellotti, a transplanted native of Cleveland, OH, who was convinced to move out to the Pacific NW by his old friend, Steve Wilkinson, a veteran of the Portland music scene. They were soon joined by Anthony Lambright on lead guitar and Joel Boutwell on bass. The group's sound is essentially modern-day roots-rock, building from the classic recordings of Bob Dylan, the Band and Neil Young channelled through latter bands like Uncle Tupelo, Dinosaur Jr and Screaming Trees. It is Neil Young's work with Crazy Horse that especially has drawn comparisons. Like Young, Vercellotti crafts melodic, pop-oriented tunes played with an electric-guitar-drenched rock intensity. The overall theme concerns romantic conflict, with lyrics that lamented lost love and sometimes longed for a return though the overall conclusion is to move on to the next relationship. Like J. Mascis' work with Dinosaur Jr., Pale Blue Sky uses melodic hard rock, rated solely by their own rules, ignoring all passing trends and sticking to noisy metallic fusion of hard rock and avant noise with a strong tie to basics of folk-rock. Note: While the format of this album is 'CD-R' these are professionally manufactured retail ready packages, shrink wrapped with full color printing on label and 4 page booklet that includes lyrics! This is not some homemade copy.
