Pete Remembers Woody
Few if any people can speak as eloquently or as knowledgeably about the foremost American folksinger and songwriter of the 20th century than his slightly younger contemporary Pete Seeger can. Which is precisely why this special 2-CD release celebrates the late Woody Guthrie’s 100th birthday with spoken reminiscences by Pete himself! His interludes and stories frame 47 Guthrie songs (including two never-before-recorded tunes) performed by David Bernz, Work o’ the Weavers, the Vanaver Caravan, the Almanac Singers, Fred Gillen Jr. and Steve Kirkman, Amy Frandon, Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer. Of particular note are an eerie duet by Pete and Woody on "66 Highway Blues" and a vintage recording of "New York Town" by Woody and Cisco Houston from 1944! Appleseed Recordings.
