My Room's Cold / Peyton Farquers Times
Writing and performing this material for ones debut album can be somewhat daunting. Especially coming at the age of 45. A time when most performers have restricted their acts to playing European revival shows relying on songs that have previously proven themselves and are now solidly entreanched in the arsenal of their 'big' hits. This is not the case with this work. 'I Wish I Was Headed Home' a song that is about, one who is on the road, in this case a musician, but it can be anybody, from a salesman to a CEO. The song is about the mire of frustration that seems to ineviditably result from the circumstances one encounters. The song 'If Only Someday' is ultimatly about myself hopeing that I will eventually meet that proverbial girl of my dreams, if only someday. The piece 'All The Time' is unique in it's dreamlike quality and sounds as if it were culled from a Velvet Underground session. 'Shine Your Love' comes to us through a recording of a live performance at the University of Maryland. The song 'Lament' describes how, there will be times when a grievous sorrow will prevail, and undesired rumours of an all consuming fire that will eventually engulph us, it is therefore up to you on how to cope with this ordeal.' Another deep song is the haunting, 'When I Look To You America'. The songs, 'Gentle Kind', 'Look For Me' and 'Now I Know' are just simple love songs with 'Now I Know' being written from the standpoint of a relationship that has turned sour. All in all it is a release that is worth a closer listen. The one thing to remember with this album, is when buying it, why not pick up two copies, and give one to a friend!
