Eye of the Light
Born in Helena, Montana he moved to San Jose, California when he was 5 years old and grew up listening to the great sounds of Motown, rock, folk, jazz, blues, musical comedy and classical music. While attending Campbell High School and San Jose State University he studied voice and was a member of vocal groups and musical theater. He received an award from San Jose State University in acting as well as two awards from San Jose Civic Light Opera for roles in musical comedies. He went on to receive a BSBA and MBA. He now resides in Medford, located in a picturesque region of Southern Oregon. Ron Hogan is a very prolific songwriter. He has produced two recent CDs titled "Eye of the Storm" and "Eye of the Light". The words and music to all the songs on the CDs have been written by him. He relishes writing music and is fascinated with experimentation in words and sound. His joy is to create music that allows people to be absorbed in something new and original which can take them places they have never been or, haven't visited in a while. He adds a soulful touch to many of the songs with his vocals and his theatrical background is evident in the interpretation of the lyrics. Ron had surrounded himself with some very creative and gifted musicians, who played on the CDs with him. They are: Chris Burbick who is a talented artist playing a variety of instruments on the CDs 'Eye of the Storm' and 'Eye of the Light' including: Acoustic and Electric Guitar; Bass Guitar; E-Bow; Mandolin; Bowed Psaltery; Pennywhistle; Recorder; and various percussion instruments. His own album 'Silver Hand' has won critical acclaim. Andy Pimentel is a master keyboardist who has worked with the likes of Chuck Berry, Shaun Harris and many others. He has a gift for improvisation and his workmanship is superb. Dennis Egli is a very creative bassist who has many years of experience working as a professional musician. His work on the CDs is exceptional. Mark Stever is a gifted drummer who has the ability find grooves quickly and drive the band to great things. Jim King and Rico Salas play on the 'Eye of the Storm' CD and their special sound gives an original flavor to such songs as 'Tell Me if My Heart is Me', 'In the Jar' and of course the bands' favorite 'Find a New Way'. Jim's horn playing is top notch and Rico gives the songs an earthy SAX sound that adds to the mood. Due to his many influences, Ron style of writing has been called eclectic, merging the sounds of country, folk, rock, jazz and pop into some individual compositions and as a mixture on all his CDs. He is recently working with hip hop beats, adding melodies and lyrics to them not normally heard in this genre. He will be sharing this experiment with the public soon in his upcoming CD 'End of the Open Mind'. Look for it in the next few months here at CDbaby.
