Gears, The
Rockin' At Ground Zero - Deluxe Edition
Included here is the complete 1980 “Rockin’ At Ground Zero” LP packaged with the first single and this time with five, yes five, 1979 demo recordings added to it, that have never been released. A Rockabilly’d up version of “Rockin’ At Ground Zero” and a song that has never been released, “Girl Crazy”, highlight these newly found tunes. Twenty three tunes in total that have been remastered and it comes with new digi pak packaging and a fold out poster. This deluxe version also includes a separate D.I.s “Rare Cuts!” bonus CD ! Out of the ashes of The Gears in 1982, vocalist Axxel G. Reese and lifelong friend drummer Dave Drive started a new band called The D.I.s (Drill Instructor’s). Keeping the Punkabilly influence they forged on but soon they were to embark on a Roots sound as well. With numerous line-up changes that included Jimmy Reed (Levi Dexter and the Ripchords), Matt Lee (Ray Campi’s Rockabilly Rebels), Mike “Shakey Wilcox (The Rockats), Thadius T. Baker, Patrick ‘Frenchie” French (The Joneses), “Venice George” Chavlez , Ron Emory (TSOL) & Jonny Ray Bartel (The Red Devils & The Knitters) they forged on to 1992. Only one released recording ever came out, a five song 12” (Lock & Load) produced by Billy Zoom, but now a complete 22 track studio recording collection has been assembled. Some of it is absolutely brilliant and you will wonder why they were never signed or had hit records. This is a must have collection for any fan of L.A. Punk, Roots or Rock n’ Roll.

After their first single, Crazy Rueben was out and Kidd Spike was recruited from The Controllers to play guitar. Now the classic lineup was complete along with Brian Redz on bass. Included here is the complete 1980 “Rockin’ At Ground Zero” LP packaged with four, yes four, 1979 demo recordings added to it, that have never been released. Anson Funderburgh & The Rockets
Sins [pa] [Slimline]
Full performer name: Anson Funderburgh And The Rockets. Anson Funderburgh And The Rockets include: Anson Funderburgh (guitar); Mark "Kaz" Kazanoff (tenor & baritone saxophones); Mr. Excello, Saxy Boy, Grady Gaines (tenor saxophone); Matt McCabe (piano); Rhandy Simmons (bass); Marc Wilson (drums). Additional personnel: Sam Myers (vocals) Recorded in Metairie, Louisiana from January 1987-February 1989. Anson Funderburgh & The Rockets: Anson Funderburgh (electric guitar); Matt McCabe (piano); Rhandy Simmons (bass instrument); Marc Wilson (drum, percussion). Personnel: Sam Myers (vocals, harmonica). Sins is a good fusion of Texas and Delta blues, alternating between rocking shuffles and laidback ballads. Funderburgh's playing is tasteful -- he has an enticing sound, but he never falls into grandstanding -- and Sam Myers's voice is rich and his harp playing intoxicating. Furthermore, the selection of material is first-rate, featuring sharp originals and well-chosen covers from the likes of Percy Mayfield and Elmore James. The result? One of Anson Funderburgh's best albums. ~ Thom Owens

Anson Funderburgh
My Love Is Here To Stay
Personnel includes: Anson Funderburgh (guitar); Sam Myers (vocals, harmonica); Doug Rynack (piano); Rory MacLeod (bass); Wes Starr (drums). Recorded in Dallas, Texas in August 1984. Personnel: Anson Funderburgh (electric guitar); Sam Myers (vocals, harmonica); Doug Rynack (piano); Rory McLeod (upright bass, electric bass); Wes Starr (drum). Audio Mixers: Larry Wallace; Hammond Scott. Liner Note Author: Jef Scott. Young Texas guitarist Anson Funderburgh and veteran harpist Sam Myers got along so well during the making of this fine set that they got their act together and took it on the road. Happily, it remains there, with Myers deftly fronting Funderburgh's Rockets. Myers's booming voice and rocking harp and Funderburgh's crisp, tradition-laden lead guitar mesh beautifully here -- the disc features brash remakes of Myers's past triumphs "My Love Is Here to Stay" and "Poor Little Angel Child" and a host of fresh titles. ~ Bill Dahl
