After It All
'A dancer turned musician all because of a marimba'. These are the words that I would use to describe this incredibly talented musician/singer/songwriter. Her first passion was dance but quickly changed to music when she discovered the marimba at age 15. Self taught, by the next year, she was invited to become a member of an all marimba ensemble. Later, as a pioneer member of the bands: The Present, Fuzz Factor, Girls of Fuzz, D'Cuckoo, Shojobo and Bogo, having opened for bands like Primus, Tower of Power, Four Non Blondes, L7, Jonathan Richman, Taylor Dayne, and Stevie Wonder, she was able to both hone her skills at playing marimba and develop her unique sound. You may have even seen her perform with one of these groups at any number of the following shows and or venues: THE PRESENT/D'CUCKOO (All Female, Electronic marimba, Techno/World Pop) Festival at the Lake, Lake Merritt - Oakland, CA., Haight Street Fair - San Francisco, CA., La Pena - Berkeley, CA., Ashkenaz - Berkeley, CA., Imagination Celebration - Denver, CO., Children's Website Awards (Think Quest) - Los Angeles, CA., Aveda Conference - Los Angeles, CA., Cleveland's Bicentennial Celebration, Cleveland, OH., Sun Microsystem's Corporate Event- Kona, HI., Great American Music Hall - San Francisco, CA., Mac World Conference - San Francisco, CA., Stanford University, Palo Alto, CA., etc. FUZZ FACTOR/GIRLS OF FUZZ (Mixed Gender, Acoustic Marimba Driven, World/ Rock and 'G.O.F.' the women of the group-marimbas' and keyboard) * In and around San Francisco Paradise Lounge, Slim's, DNA, Oasis, The Fillmore, I-Beam, Nightbreak, Berkeley Square, Kennel Club (now known as- The Independent), Komotion, Spikes, Bottom of the Hill, The Starry Plough, El Rio, Haight Street Fair, Lollapalooza, Gathering of the Tribes, Marin Film Festival, etc. G.O.F.- Paradise Lounge, Television show 'Q' on KQED, Caribbean Zone, The San Francisco Fashion Center, Living Green, The Gift Center, Fort Mason, Triton Hotel, Climate Theatre, William Sonoma, Academy of Sciences, Lindsey Museum, etc. SHOJOBO/BOGO (Mixed Gender, World/Fusion, Featuring: Acoustic Marimba) *Special events Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), Museum of African Dispora (MoAD), Asian Art Museum, deYoung Museum, Academy of Sciences, Palace of Legion of Honor,Moscone Center, Ruby Skye, W Hotel, The Ritz- Carlton, Exploratorium, Maritime Museum, Metreon, Yerba Buena Center, San Jose Tech Museum, Monterey Bay Aquarium, Plaza Hotel, New York, N.Y., etc. Though her musical journey has led her in many directions, her vision has remained clear. Shalonda wants to make music for people, and to that end, she continues to achieve her goal. The only difference is that here, she has done it all. The lyrics, vocals, and all musical performances and arrangments heard on the CD are all inspired and written from her initial love of the instrument. 'The marimba made me the musician', is what she always says. This CD is absolutely amazing s. stortz shashe records.
