City Lights Are Blinding You[CD]
'...easy comparisons to old Nirvana and Subpop bands from back in the day. With their feel for the current alternative music scene and the ability to take the mundane sound and push it out of the mix, Song of the Siren is definitely a band to keep your eye on in 2008.' -- Guestlist Magazine '...tunes that sway from chaotic to calm, topped with a voice that bounces from siren sweet to punk rough...a unique alternative rock experience.' -- Campus Circle '...an elastic, expressive voice...' -- East Bay Express At first glance, this is what you might see: A Korean-American girl with a Harvard degree raised on classical piano in New York City. A metal-screamo-hardcore musician who melts in the direct sun from southern Oregon. A native Californian who harnesses his ADD energy by playing drums (of the air variety and otherwise) nonstop. A punk and metal loving professional trouble maker seen climbing rooftops and marquis at 3am. No, this isn't an intergalactic special forces council. This motley crew of bandmates came together in serendipitous ways, each searching for something real to belong to. Song of the Siren is an alternative rock & pop band that was realized in the summer of 2007 in San Francisco. SOS channels a range of bands from Foo Fighters to Blondie and runs a dynamic sound gamut that the band's co-producer Garry Ventura likens to that of Nirvana. Their sound is heavy and edgy at the bottom, uplifting and honest at the top, sewed together with catchy melodies. All punctuated by a voice that goes from sultry to powerful to vulnerable in an instant, their songs ring true to the lover, criminal, mourner and stalker in all of us. DEBUT ALBUM, 'City Lights Are Blinding You' OUT NOW! Song of the Siren's upcoming debut, City Lights Are Blinding You, is a no-frills showcase of the band's ever-growing abilities. Their unique sound unraveled before their very ears as their fresh, catchy songs were warmed to a timeless glow by vintage sensibility. Recorded live to 2" tape at John Vanderslice's Tiny Telephone studio in San Francisco in fall 2007, Song of the Siren and producer Garry Ventura were fortunate to be assigned to work with engineer Justin Phelps (Cake, Mars Volta). Phelps invited the band to finish their record at his own studio, Hyde Street Studio C, which had hosted bands like CCR and Jefferson Airplane. Finally, their record was mastered at the renowned The Plant Studios by recording guru John Cuniberti (Satriani, Neville Brothers).
