The rich, musical hotbed of Kent, Ohio has produced a talented act, and they're known as The Speedbumps. The Speedbumps are a 4-piece band, including Erik Urycki on guitar and vocals, Sam Kristoff playing cello, Evan Lewis on the bass and Pat Hawkins handling percussion. Kent's own Daily Kent Stater says: "The Speedbumps have been called neo-acoustic, folk, chamber rock and everything in between. Their sound is influenced by artists like Nick Drake, Wilco, Iron and Wine and Damien Rice, to name a few". The band has also shared the stage with several national acts, including OKGO and Andrew Bird. Apple Tree, released in October 2008, is a follow-up to their debut album, Back to Burlington, released in 2005. The Speedbumps have worked to maintain the high level of song-writing and instrumentation demonstrated on their first album, and in the process have found an incredible emotive outlet, and a way to showcase both the diversity in Urycki's thematic song-writing and the individual styles that each member brings to the group.
