I Don't Need You I Don't Need Anybody
Stalactite Party is group of musical minds that wanted something different for themselves. All four members ( Frank Kozyra- Tenor Sax, Omer Shemesh- Keys, Nick Tardif- Bass, Donny Fortin- Drums) come from a jazz background and have suffered from working class musician syndrome (a disorder which, mind you, deserves more public attention). Upon formation they began writing original jazz-fusion style material. This quickly morphed into a more Indie Rock/odd time/minimalist amalgam, which has become the voice of Stalactite Party today. March 2009 sees the release of Stalactite Party's first full length CD 'I Don't Need You, I Don't Need Anybody'. The 8 original compositions on the album represent the evolving musical direction of the quartet since their predominantly modern jazz fueled formation. The music is riddled with odd time signature grooves, distorted Fender Rhodes, fierce improvising, and dreamy ambience. There is a post punk rawness present which offsets the geeked out modern jazz element therein. No smooth jazz here, thank you very much. That 'something different' that Stalactite Party has hoped to achieve is ever changing and this album may someday represent one era of this kind of evolution. At least, let's hope so....
