Chip Off the Old Block
During the 60's, Stanley Turrentine and Shirley Scott were an inseparable team in the studio, on the bandstand, and at home as husband and wife. A Chip off the Old Block is one of the best of their many classics during this decade. This tribute to Count Basie features signature tunes by Basie, Neal Hefti, and Frank Foster, but this quintet featuring Blue Mitchell puts it's own "Blue Note Sound" spin on these big band classics. Issued on CD for the first time, the Rudy Van Gelder re-master includes two bonus tracks from an aborted septet made a week earlier.
