'Hundred-Bullet-Proof'... ahh, yes... yet another fancy-schmancy, odd-but-witty album title, following in the footsteps of their last outing, 'Flash-Arrows & The Money Shot'! The riff-ready, copious de melodious musical machine that is Star Collector brings forth their fourth long-player, co-produced by ex-Grapes Of Wrath frontman Kevin Kane (The Salteens, Zumpano) & singer/hack-axeman Vic Wayne. On 'Hundred-Bullet-Proof', the boys continue to embrace decadent '70's Americana while maintaining their unabashed love of British power-pop. This time, however, the heavy is heavier, the moody, moodier and the psychedelic, well, psychedelicer! (yeah, yeah... we know that's not a real word but it's fun to say and, what is this anyway, an album promo or Scrabble?!?) Engineered by Ryen Froggatt (Grapes Of Wrath, Neko Case) & featuring Kevin Kane on guitars & female gospel choir & Adam East on mandolin & Garfunkel harmonies, the entire album was recorded AND mixed in just 15 days. "Holy Sheeiite!... really?!"... "Yep, really, really" (insert Shrek impression here) AND it was mastered by Chris Potter (Elvis Costello, Sarah McLachlan) so lie back...pour a glass of fine red...dim the lights... & TURN YOUR STEREO UP FREAKIN' LOUD!! Filled with axe-godliness that's "beyond sick, bro!", a rhythm section that squares off Entwistle/Moon against Jones/Bonham for fun & profit (& the next round of drinks), & "Vic's pure lyrical genius" (quote by Vic's mom (2006)), Star Collector's 'Hundred-Bullet-Proof' will have you chanting, "We will.. we will... Rock you, eh?" for these Canadian lads! The band's third album, 'Flash-Arrows & The Money Shot' (2003) was their introduction to the international stage as they toured to L.A. & Europe twice to support it. Also co-produced by Kevin Kane, it helped the band land Distribution in the U.S. & Japan and it received rave reviews in Canada, U.S., UK & Germany. The songs, 'Love And All It Kills', 'Overpass', 'Bounty On The Mutiny', 'Start To Shine' & 'Another Pop Cliché' all received radio & internet radio play from CFOX (Vancouver) to Popism (Yugoslavia) to Lord Litter's Playlist (UK) to Plastico Elastico (Spain) to Not Lame Podcasts (U.S.). Their second album 'Black-Eyed Soul' (2001), was co-produced & mixed by Dean Maher (3 Doors Down, Sloan) & the first single, 'So Beautiful', received a load of airplay on CFOX, X-FM, CBC, Q-FM (Victoria), CHWV (Nanaimo), CITR, CJSR (Edmonton) & CFRO including reaching #2 on The Wolf (106.9 FM) in Nanaimo, BC (& spending 14 weeks in the top 30 there!). It also charted for 2 weeks on Extreme (107.3FM) in Victoria. The songs 'When The Pill Goes Down' & 'Ten Feet Tall' also made the playlist on The Wolf in '02. Star Collector's debut, Demo Model 256 (1999), was mixed by GGGarth Richardson (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rage Against The Machine, 54-40, Catherine Wheel, Kittie) & the singles, 'Skyscraper' & 'Slowfade', received tons of airplay on CBC, FM, college & co-op radio as well. Their first video, 'Skyscraper', appeared on MuchMusic, MuchWest, CBC & The Independent Music Video Festival & the band has played live on Urban Rush (5 times!), City TV Breakfast & VTV Breakfast. They also recorded Leonard Cohen's Bird On The Wire for the feature film, Sons Of Cohen & will have 'Slowfade' featured in a CBC Movie Of The Week in Summer '06. Star Collector's songs are featured on Hook Heaven 1,The Canadian Independent Box Set, The Point Magazine, JetSet 1, Northern Lights Vol. 1 & Local Harmonies compilation CDs. Also, 'The Evil Room' from 'Hundred-Bullet-Proof' will be featured on Not Lame Recordings' Hook Heaven 2 in June '06. To boot, a CD-ROM put out by Riffage.com called JetSet 2, which featured 'Skyscraper', was distributed with the June '00 issue of SPIN Magazine. All 4 of the band's albums are distributed outside of Canada through Not Lame & Kool Kat (U.S.) & Wizzard In Vinyl (Japan). They are available through CDBaby.com on-line, as well. The songs 'So Beautiful' & 'Slowfade' were both named Track Of The Day on Garageband.com. Star Collector's live shows, including their 2 European Tours ('04 '05) for International Pop Overthrow (where they played The Cavern Club (Liverpool) twice, as well as other stops in the UK, Germany & The Netherlands) were hugely successful & have expanded the band's audience internationally. They toured to L.A. in '04, also for International Pop Overthrow, (where they also played Seattle, Portland & San Francisco) & have performed at New Music West. The band has played with 54-40, The Heavy Blinkers, Sweet Apple Pie, Koufax & The Boss Martians & each show comes complete with scissor-kicks, bombastic riffs & a fetishistic love of velour, suede & loederhoesen. Always hot & sticky affairs, the boys try to clean up after themselves whenever humanly possible. Star Collector... 4 Flash-Arrows; 1 big Money Shot & now, for the first time... Hundred-Bullet-Proof!! Cum On Feel The Noize!! (Star Collector will be touring Europe for the third time in May/June '06 to promote 'Hundred-Bullet-Proof' as well as playing the IPO Vancouver festival in September '06).
