Sidewalk Groove Turns Into Dreams[CD]
'They call me sun because my Father is the sun and my Mother is the moon; with them I am one with the universe and by that I shall always stay in tune.' -excerpt from my poem 'As A Man Thinketh'- My entire life has been a sidewalk groove. I have lived every word on this CD; from the physical, to the spiritual, and the lyrical. All the things I experienced growing up in the Glenville area of Cleveland have been woven into the fabric that has made me who I am both good and bad, and has given me the outlook on life that I possess. When it came to being one of the crowd I always was in a class by myself. I was singled out by my peers, and wasn't considered cool to have around because I always stood out and did my own thing. Through the years I have rooted myself in the arts. I was an Actor and Instructor at Karamu House, Inc. in Cleveland which is the oldest African American cultural arts institution in the United States, and the place that nurtured other Actors and Writers such as Langston Hughes and Ron O'neal. Poetry has always been the outlet for me, and has been my way of letting people into my mind and my world. From the stage of Sixth Street Under in Cleveland and other venues in my city to Europe and Asia the name Sun Child is becoming known. I have worked and performed with other Cleveland Poets such as Desmond 'Storm E' Jones, Kevin Moore, Joe 'Liquid Rebel' Primes,Manatho 'Moonhead' Masani, and various members of the Black Poetic Society out of Cleveland State University. People that have never experienced Spoken Word outside of the mainstream are getting the real deal from me and other 'Underground Griots' that have a message to give. I pride myself in calling my work 'urban transcendentalism' because I combine life, love, culture, and spirit into one big symphony; bridging the gap between the underground and the mainstream. My mission is to expose all to the spoken word the way that it was meant to be heard. I am a fan of Poets such as Saul Williams, Ursula Rucker, Claude Mackay, Black Ice, Gil Scott-Herron, and Miguel Pinero to name a few. People sometimes compare my work to Ursula and Saul's whom I both admire and love, but I don't try to sound like any one but myself. I deliver it the way I lived it. Now all the questions people have about me are finally answered in the tracks on this CD. Everything that people wanted to know about me is here. Take a journey in the sidewalk groove, share my dreams, and for those that knew me back in the day may you finally understand.
