Written and recorded by Suzanne Brooks, jazz stylist with a uniquely beautiful voice and Reggie Graham, remarkably talented and versatile jazz keyboardist, 'Lasting Impression' began as a poem by Suzanne and an instrumental by Reggie. Like peanut butter and chocolate, the two blended smoothly to relate how Kenny Garrett's song, 'Simply Said,' sparked Suzanne's memory of East Coast jazz and her one date with trumpeter Miles Davis. It was to be her only date with Miles because the song is also about learning to love someone from a distance. Those who learn this survive. The date took place in Philadelphia's Showboat. It ended when Suzanne declined the invitation to an after party and went home and on with life, forever in love with the music Miles gave us all.
