Soon-to-be dB’s co-founder Peter Holsapple came to Memphis in ’78, chasing the spirit of Big Star and setting up shop at Sam Phillips Recording Service with engineer Richard Rosebrough (a friend of Big Star’s). Also in that studio then: Alex Chilton, who didn’t care for the tracks he heard Peter making and promised to come "show him how it’s done." Now, thanks to newly found tapes, we have this debut of both artist’s tracks from those sessions; previously unseen photos and illuminating Robert Gordon notes join Peter’s "Bad Reputation," "We Were Happy There" (both later recorded by the dB’s), "The Death of Rock" (later turned into "I’m in Control’ by the Troggs), Alex’s "Tennis Bum," "Marshall Law," "Heart and Soul," "Hey Mona" and more!
