George Harrison’s career outside the Beatles began with an excursion to India ("Wonderwall") and a trailblazing experiment in synthesized sonics, "Electronic Sound." After those two 1969 concept albums, it was George’s rapidly developing songcraft that took the reins, starting with the massive smash and instant classic "My Sweet Lord" and the rest of the 1970 triple album that merged melody with spirituality, "All Things Must Pass." A flurry of big hits followed as George’s star rose yet higher: "What Is Life," "Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth)," "Dark Horse," "Ding Dong, Ding Dong" and "You," all of which arose from "All Things Must Pass" and the Top 10 LPs that followed in its wake ("Living in the Material World," "Dark Horse" and "Extra Texture"). This lavish new set containing Harrison’s complete solo studio albums continues on with three more LPs that soared up the charts—"Thirty Three & 1/3," "George Harrison" and "Somewhere in England," then takes us into the ’80s with "Gone Troppo" and "Cloud Nine" (George’s first Top 10 LP in 12 years, produced to perfection by Jeff Lynne). The last album released in his lifetime, "Live in Japan" (1992), closes out this set along with "Brainwashed," the much-loved posthumous collection of unreleased recordings assembled by Lynne and Dhani Harrison (George’s son). Each of these albums is available independently as well (including the 3-LP limited-edition release of "All Things Must Pass"), and every album here has been meticulously remastered at Capitol Studios from the original analog tapes and pressed onto 180-gram vinyl. But inside the heavy-duty case and along with all the replica artwork adorning each album, you’ll find two more collectibles in this big box: exclusive 12" singles of Harrison’s last two hits, "When We Was Fab" and his #1 smash version of "Got My Mind Set on You." George would have turned 74 this year; this lavish audiophile vinyl set is an exquisite celebration of the man initially considered to be the most reserved Beatle, but who proved to be a matchless talent as a songwriter, guitarist and singer, too.
