From the fall of an empire to the rise of a new race, Gsol honors all that makes us human in a more-than-human world. On May 25, 2011, four days after the world was supposed to end in Rapture (again, for some doomsday predictors like Harold Camping), Gsol enraptured a small audience gathered at Café Aquí in Tucson, Arizona - owned by guitarist, Oliver Ray, who formerly toured the world with Patti Smith. Little did they know that this was Gsol's first full concert together and that two of the members had never heard the songs played that evening before. The 'Conguero' Miguel Bazemore, who recorded with Stevie Wonder on 'Inner Visions' and toured with the Gap Band, Quincy Jones, and Chaka Khan, heard Alessandro and Neil Antonio only the night before at Sky Bar and immediately became an integral member of the band. Anton Shekerjiev, originally from Bulgaria, was the missing 'gypsy' element and also joined Gsol only a week before the show. What you are listening to is a kind of 'New World' world music with influences from African, Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, and Eastern European music. Artists like Fela Kuti, James Brown, Sade, Paul Simon, and Bob Marley were inspirations, but also the Lao-tzu, Rumi, and Joseph Campbell who said: 'Dreams are private myths. Myths are public dreams.'
