The Story of Crowded Moon - words from the composer How did you come up the idea for this CD and what's up with those weird song titles? About two or three years ago I was watching an old 50's science fiction movie called 'Earth vs. The Flying Saucers' and I asked myself "What heck is up these UFOs anyway?" So I decided that I would research this topic on the Internet and treat like it was a technical problem with my computer. As I dug deeper I came across all kinds of wild and crazy things. Some of the wild and absurd concepts that I came across really fueled my musical inspiration like gas on a fire! And because of all this inspiration, I decided that I absolutely had to make this CD. The weird song tiles are a conceptual encapsulation of the topics that inspired these songs. Many of the song titles will explain themselves if you use them to do a search on Google or YouTube. So what makes this CD so unique? Like all my CDs, I crafted this one to be an uplifting, positive and inspirational listening experience. The great thing about instrumental music is that it is wide open to your interpretation and imagination. No one is trying to tell you a story or get you to think about anything in particular. You are free to think of or imagine anything you wish. One of the comments I keeping hearing is that people really like my "changes" or modulations. I like to take the listener on a little adventure with the music I write. My aim is to entice the listener to participate in an auditory and visual experience. I think that is why I get so much feedback from people that tell me when they listen my music they get visualizations like lying in a field looking at the stars or flying over the ocean or some other pleasant, calming experience. Another thing that makes the Crowded Moon so unique is me. I did everything on this CD myself. I wrote, produced, performed and designed the art work everything you see and hear on this CD. This is the only way that I have found in the thirty years I have been composing music to bring my musical visions into reality. In the past I have worked with various singers and bands but it only seems to come together if I do all of it myself. Does that take a lot of time and work? Yes it sure does, but it's definitely worth it, especially when it all comes together and gels into a CD like this one. By the way, if you would like to read about the creation process for this CD, then click on the link to my blog and there you can read all about my exciting learning curves and other equally juicy topics which you may find profoundly beneficial if at sometime in the future you find yourself having difficulty sleeping. Do you play live venues? At this time it is impossible for me to play live for a number of reasons. Perhaps sometime in the not to distant future it will be possible to do a few live gigs now and again. Any projects planed for the future? Yes I just started work on two more CD projects. One is a meditation CD and the other is going to be an uplifting progressive trance CD. What the funniest thing anyone has ever said to you about your music? What instrument are you playing? ARTIST BIO Kevin Atwood (born September 13, 1957) is a Canadian multi-instrumentalist and composer, working in a style that blends progressive rock, folk, ethnic or world music, classical music, electronic music and New Age. His music has been descried as "visionary, opulent, symphonic, sweet and somber". His latest CD project, "Crowed Moon" (due to be released May 2012), will include ten progressive instrumental tracks all written, produced and performed by Atwood in his digital home studio in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Inspired by UFO lore on the Internet, the songs will endeavor to take the listener on inspirational, visceral journeys of auditory pleasure. While the inspiration for his new music may be a little inaccessible by some, the music itself will not be. Atwood says he has designed the music on this CD for the enjoyment of a wide demographic of listeners that resign right here on planet Earth. "Crowded Moon" will be Atwood's fifth CD to date and promises to be the best yet. Atwood has been interested in music, guitars and synthesizes since his early teen years. For his high school music project he built a random tone synthesizer from a small Radio Shack amplifier circuit board and surplus electronic parts from old televisions and radios. In the mid-seventies he and two other high school friends put together a music group called "Paralandra" which started out as an avant-garde ensemble and later morphed into the only progressive art rock band Nova Scotia, Canada. Atwood has also written music for a variety of modern dance choreographers in Canada as well as co-produced and several commercial jingles for television and radio.
