    Overview

1967's Monterey International Pop Music Festival hosted the first U.S. performance of The Who, Jimi Hendrix and Ravi Shankar. Performances by Janis Joplin, Otis Redding, The Grateful Dead, The Butterfield Blues Band, Booker T and the MGs, and many others cemented Monterey Pop's place in rock n roll history.

This Official Monterey Pop Festival coffee mug features the original 1967 Monterey Pop Festival concert poster by acclaimed artist Tom Wilkes. His original poster was printed on a rare foil stock. During his heyday, Wilkes worked on the design of many album covers, including the Rolling Stones' ‘Beggars Banquet’, Neil Young's ‘Harvest’, Eric Clapton's debut solo album ‘Eric Clapton’, Joe Cocker's ‘Mad Dogs & Englishmen’, George Harrison's ‘Concert for Bangladesh’ & ‘All Things Must Pass’ & many more.

The Association, The Paupers, Lou Rawls, Beverley, Johnny Rivers, Eric Burdon & The Animals, Simon & Garfunkel, Canned Heat, Janis Joplin with Big Brother and the Holding Company, Country Joe and the Fish, Al Kooper, The Butterfield Blues Band, The Electric Flag, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Steve Miller Band, Moby Grape, Hugh Masekela, The Byrds, Laura Nyro, Jefferson Airplane, Booker T. & the M.G.'s, The Mar-Keys, Otis Redding, Ravi Shankar, The Blues Project, The Group With No Name, Buffalo Springfield, The Who, Grateful Dead, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Scott McKenzie & The Mamas & the Papas all performed over the three day event. The influence of the Monterey International Pop Festival is unquestioned, and it is generally regarded as one of the beginnings of the “Summer of Love” in 1967.
