The Crew Cuts were one of the white doowop vocal groups who specialised in recording cover versions of R&B hits for the mainstream pop market - their two biggest successes came with their version of The Chords "Sh-Boom", which gave them a pop No. 1, and their cover of The Penguins' "Earth Angel", which they took to No. 3 - other hit R&B doowop covers were "Gum Drop" and The Nutmegs' "A Story Untold". This great-value 60-track collection comprises almost all the A & B sides from their thirty -odd releases on Mercury and RCA during this period, and naturally features all their charted singles, as well as providing a fascinating showcase of their versatility as they ranged a cross not only vocal group doowop-flavoured material but also straight rock 'n' roll and middle-ground pop as they looked for a new hit formula as the market changed during the late '50s.
